Caribbean Rose, Inc. would like to congratulate V.I. Jaguars Basketball Team alumnus Derick Perez. He played on the 2025 V.I. Jaguars Basketball Team. He currently lives on the Caribbean island of Antigua. Here is a story about him.
"The D2 Debate – What Is Development?
A serious question echoed across the chamber:
What does development really mean in ABBA’s Second Division?
Parliamentarian Joanne Massiah shared thoughtful insight:
“Although age 21 isn't the ideal for youth development, here in Antigua, the aptitude is raw, so extending foundational playgrounds up to that level isn’t a bad idea. Teams in the development stage should allow young and exciting players meaningful minutes to keep that fire alive, especially when we only have a handful of skilled players in that youthful department.”
The message is clear:
Development isn’t just about age — it’s about opportunity, playing time, and nurturing confidence.
Young Star Watch: Derick Perez, at just 12 years old, is already one of the island’s most outstanding young talents. A walking bucket. A crowd pleaser. Shiftiness, court IQ, and fearless flair.
Parliament fully endorses his game and hopes his size never overshadows his skill. Talent is talent — and buckets don’t measure height.
Division Two action tips off tonight at the JSC Sports Complex at 6:45 PM.
If you love the game, this is where tomorrow’s stars are forged.
Basketball is life."
